Maori Language Week!

Hi. If you didn't know already, it's Maori Language Week! And so for Room 11, we have Maori Language Week slides. In those slides, every day for a week we will learn one of the tasks (In order)

And our first task is to learn this karakia for kai:

--------------------

Maori:

Ki taku whanau

Me nga hoa

Me te kai,

Kia ora.

-----------

English:

Our family,

Friends and food,

We say thank you.

---------------------

Here is a video of me saying it:

  1. Hi Grace!
Good to see you posting again!
I like how you've included the English and Maori versions.
I don't want to sound fussy or anything but kia ora is pronounced key-or-ra.

    2. Hi Anna. Thanks. I wanted people to know what it meant in English! I used to always pronounce it as key-or-ra.. but then I realised there is an a after ki (ki A ora) If that makes sense..so I pronounced it as key-a-or-ra. Other languages sometimes get confusing...Thanks!

  3. Kia ora Grace,

I love you how you are giving Te Reo Maori a go. I love how you included your video. I did one on my digital pepeha. Are you planning to try any of the other challenges?

Looking forward to future blog posts,
    Miss Laxa

  4. Hey Grace

I love that you included the English translation as well. It helps to connect the two so you can see what word means what! Always good to know what your saying a!

How did you find it saying the karakia? What was the hardest part for you? Sometimes I struggle with rolling my Rs!

Keep up the good work :)

    1. Kia ora Marleen. Thanks! It was actually not that hard to do the karakia. It was actually quite fun! I don't think I have any parts I struggled with most to be honest...Oh, and just keep practising your rolling R's lol. Sorry for the late reply :)
